How the Irish pension relief limit works
Revenue applies an age-related percentage to eligible earnings, with no more than €115,000 of earnings used in the calculation. The percentages rise from 15% below age 30 to 40% at age 60 or over.
Existing employee or personal pension contributions use part of the same annual percentage limit. Enter them separately so the calculator shows the remaining room for a proposed AVC or PRSA contribution.
What the tax-saving estimate includes
The estimate reduces gross income across the entered 20% standard-rate band and then the 40% band. It shows Income Tax before personal credits, because individual credits can limit the relief actually usable by a low-liability taxpayer.
Revenue states that employee pension contributions do not receive USC or PRSI relief. The after-tax cost here therefore subtracts estimated Income Tax relief only.
Projection assumptions
The growth chart is an editable illustration, not a pension forecast. It adds the tax-relievable part of the proposed contribution at each year-end and applies a constant return after the entered annual fee.

Frequently asked questions
What percentage of earnings can I contribute with Irish pension tax relief?
The 2026 age-related limits are 15% under 30, 20% from 30–39, 25% from 40–49, 30% from 50–54, 35% from 55–59 and 40% from age 60, subject to the €115,000 earnings ceiling and your existing personal contributions.
Do AVC and PRSA contributions reduce USC or PRSI?
No. Revenue’s pension guidance says employee contributions can receive Income Tax relief but not USC or PRSI relief.
Are employer PRSA contributions included in my age limit?
This calculator excludes employer contributions from the personal age-related calculation, following Revenue’s statement that employer contributions are not taken into account for the employee earnings threshold. Special benefit-in-kind and scheme rules can still apply.
Is the projected pension value guaranteed?
No. It uses a smooth return and fee assumption. Actual investment performance, charges, contribution timing and pension rules will differ.
