The two Swiss Pillar 3a limits
For 2026, an employed person affiliated with a pension fund can contribute up to CHF 7,258. A person without a pension fund can contribute up to 20% of net earned income, capped at CHF 36,288.
The permitted payment is also the maximum deduction. Amounts already paid during the year reduce the remaining room shown here.
Why the tax rate is an input
Federal, cantonal and municipal taxes determine the value of a Pillar 3a deduction. Household circumstances and location matter, so a fixed nationwide tax-saving percentage would be misleading.
Use a marginal tax rate from an official cantonal calculation or your tax adviser. The estimate multiplies only the deductible contribution by that entered rate.
Withdrawal tax is deliberately excluded
Pillar 3a withdrawals are taxed separately and the amount depends on canton and the size and timing of withdrawals. The page projects the account value but does not present that gross value as spendable after-tax cash.
Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum Pillar 3a contribution for 2026?
The official 2026 maximum is CHF 7,258 for people affiliated with a pension fund. People without a pension fund can contribute 20% of net earned income, up to CHF 36,288.
Can I deduct the entire Pillar 3a contribution?
Contributions within your applicable annual limit are generally deductible. Your personal tax value depends on federal, cantonal and municipal rules and your circumstances.
Does the calculator include Pillar 3a withdrawal tax?
No. Withdrawal tax is canton-dependent and separately assessed. The projection is a gross account value before withdrawal tax.
Can cross-border workers use Pillar 3a?
Swiss official guidance notes that some people living abroad but working in Switzerland can participate, but deduction eligibility can depend on residence, quasi-resident status and canton. Confirm your own position.
